Aviso n.º 263/98 Por ordem superior se torna público que, na sua qualidade de depositário da Convenção de Supressão da Exigência da Legalização dos Actos Públicos Estrangeiros, concluída na Haia em 5 de Outubro de 1961, o Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros do Reino dos Países Baixos informou que, em 16 de Junho de 1997, foi recebida uma nota do embaixador de S. M.
Britânica na Haia e uma nota do embaixador da República Popular da China na Haia relativas a Hong-Kong, em cujos textos se pode ler o seguinte: Na nota do embaixador britânico '[...] in accordance with the Joint Declaration of the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Government of the People's Republic of China on the Question of Hong Kong signed on the 19 December 1984, the Government of the United Kingdom will restore Hong Kong to the People's Republic of China with effect from 1 July 1997. The Government of the United Kingdom will continue to have international responsibility for Hong Kong until that date. Therefore, from that date the Government of the United Kingdom will cease to be responsible for the international rights and obligations arising from the application of the Convention to Hong Kong.' Tradução '[...] nos termos da declaração conjunta do Governo do Reino Unido da Grã-Bretanha e Irlanda do Norte e do Governo da República Popular da China sobre a questão de Hong-Kong, assinada em 19 de Dezembro de 1984, o Governo do Reino Unido devolverá Hong-Kong à República Popular da China com efeitos a partir de 1 de Julho de 1997. O Governo do Reino Unido continuará a ter responsabilidade internacional por Hong-Kong até àquela data. Por isso, a partir dessa data o Governo do Reino Unido deixará de ser responsável pelos direitos e obrigações internacionais decorrentes da aplicação da Convenção de Hong-Kong.' Na nota do embaixador chinês '[...] The Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents done at the Hague on 5 October 1961 (hereinafter referred to as the 'Convention'), by which the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands is designated as the depositary, which applies to Hong Kong at present, will continue to apply to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with effect from 1 July 1997.
The Government of the People's Republic of China also makes the following declaration: In accordance with article 6 of the Convention, it designates each of the following as the competent authorities...
