Por ordem superior se torna público ter o Reino Unido da Grá-Bretanha e da Irlanda do Norte formulado junto do Secretário-Geral do Conselho da Europa, em 27 de Janeiro de 2005, uma comunicaçáo à Convençáo Europeia sobre Transferência de Pessoas Condenadas, aberta para assinatura em Estrasburgo em 21 de Março de 1983:

With reference to the declaration under article 20, paragraph 1, of the Convention contained in the instrument of accession deposited by the Republic of Mauritius on 18 June 2004, under which terms the Convention shall apply to the Republic of Mauritius which, pursuant to section 111 of the Constitution of Mauritius, includes inter alia the Chagos Archipelago, including Diego Garcia, the Permanent Representation of the United Kingdom has been instructed to state the following:

First, the Government of the United Kingdom of

Great Britain and Northern Ireland does not accept

1480 that the Republic of Mauritius has sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago. Sovereignty over the Chagos

Archipelago, which constitutes the British Indian

Ocean Territory, is vested in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Secondly, by a Declaration of 21 January 1987, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland extended the Convention to the British Indian Ocean Territory.
